We are historians: the Xia Dynasty

Image
Many historians debate whether the Yellow Emperor, and the later Xia Dynasty,  ever existed. Some believe that their stories are legends that paint a picture of the  perfect king, warn against corrupt leadership and explain the origins of the Chinese  dynasties. Others believe that they actually existed and archaeological finds could  provide the proof.  We explored these ancient legends together through drama. Over 4700 years ago, a tribal system existed in prehistoric China. These tribes  would often fight each other over land and resources.                                                                                                                         ...

How we learn - Part 2

Image
This week we have continued to work through our ‘how we learn’ sessions. Today the children engaged in an exciting (and very messy) partner task.  One student had to sit facing forward with their arms behind their back and the other crouched behind them with their arms through to the front to provide the arms for the other student. The task was to give a live demonstration of how to make a jam sandwich (tv cooking show style!) 🥪 Once the children had each had a go at the task (and cleaned up all the jam!) we discussed which of the 4 Rs we had used. The children recognised that they had been working in a  reciprocal  way using their collaborative skills!

How we learn -Part 1

During our topic sessions, we have been exploring ‘how we learn’ and learning the language of successful learning.  Resilience   - sticking at things Reciprocity - Learning with and from others Resourcefulness  - Learning in different ways Reflectiveness   - managing my learning The children have had fun working incredibly well together and showing excellent examples of all of the 4 Rs! The hidden apple    Building challenge Reflecting The children are looking out for themselves and others exercising their learning muscles as well as trying to think of when they could use those muscles more, both at school and at home.
