Good (Holy) Friday

Image
Giraffes had a very busy morning reflecting on the events of Good Friday. Using music, symbols, words and song, we told the story of the cross.  Watch out for our video...coming soon!

Baking and breaking bread

Image
Remembering the events of Maundy Thursday, we made flatbread yesterday.  We flavoured the bread in a variety of ways using herbs and seeds.  This afternoon, we enjoyed cooking our bread over the fire in the woods.  It was delicious. Just like at the last supper, we enjoyed the fellowship and food.

Maundy Thursday - the last supper

Image
We reflected on the events of Maundy Thursday, expressing our thoughts through art. Freya captures the moment when Jesus washes one of his disciples' feet.  John 13: 5-10 Jesus took the cup, saying, "This is my blood."  Can you spot Judas? Joshua painted him with a  red face to show his guilt.. Jesus and the twelve disciples at the last supper. How has Annie made Judas stand out? Jonny has made the distinction between Jesus and his disciples? Who is leaving? Can you see the darkness creeping in?  What is the mood of Estella's painting? Can you spot the footprints on the floor.    Jesus shocked the disciples when he told them that one of them would betray him. Judas  is creeping out. How has Freyja hinted at the time of day? Jesus blesses the blesses the bread and the wine. Can you see how Beth has reminded us of Jesus'  triumphant entry into Jerusalem? The last supper painted by Cairon.

Palm Sunday

Giraffes have been investigating the events of Palm Sunday . We explored Matthew 21:1-11. As Jesus and his followers appraoched Jerusalem, they came to Bethphage at the Mount of Olives. From there Jesus sent two of his followers and said to them, “Go to the town you can see there. When you enter it, you will quickly find a donkey tied there with her colt beside her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone asks you why you are taking the donkeys, say that the Master needs them, and he will send them at once.” Matthew 21:1–3 There were two donkeys. We wondered ... How did he know that the donkey would be there? Had he arranged this? Or did he just know? This was to bring about what the prophet had said: “Tell the people of Jerusalem,     ‘Your king is coming to you. He is gentle and riding on a donkey, on the colt of a donkey.’” Matthew 21:4–5 Jesus usually walked wherever he went. The prophecy came true. The donkey wasn't grand like a horse. Jesus wasn't showing off. The fo

How to make mini compost bins.

Image
Today we learnt about soil and how compost is made. We even made our own compost bins! We used the bottom half of a 2 litre bottle as our bin and step by step we collected everything we needed to create it. We included rocks, soil, food waste, shredded paper, water and even worms! We then covered it so the worms were in the dark, ready for them to eat the food and create compost. You can do this at home too!
