Black History month


Black History Month has now started, so some exciting activities are planned for Giraffes this week.





Taking inspiration from our research of inventors and inventions, we will design and create a 3D sculpture.


I'm excited to see what Giraffes will create. These will form part of our Art exhibition, to which you are invited, later in the month. More details are on the newsletter. 




The BBC website has a collection of resources you can use to explore black history, heritage, culture and achievements.

Welcome to Whitehall

 After arriving at the centre, we dropped off the bags and the bus drove us down to the reservoir. Using our map reading skills we had a lovely walk back to Whitehall. Enjoying a welcome snack break, we listened and watched out for curlews, skylarks, blackbirds, buzzards and crickets.  We spotted many wild flowers too.

Adventurous activity 1: Let's try abseiling

For our first activity, we headed back towards Taddington and the Monsal Trail at Millers Dale - familiar territory for us. We exchanged tales of walking, cycling and pony rides down the trail.  None of us have abseiled before, so we're not quite sure what to expect. We listened carefully before getting our harnesses on.  The instructor checked we were all safely buckled up and ready to go. Hmm...some slightly worried looks.  Here we go. Who's brave enough to go first? The bridge over the River Wye is 80 feet high and the first challenge is to climb over the railings.  We did it!  Now we can relax.
