Planetarium visit
We were so excited to have a visit from the planetarium today and learn about space in the space show inside the planetarium. Irina was our very knowledgeable guide..
We had to enter really quickly so that the dome didn’t deflate. It was dark inside so we listened listened carefully and we had to shout out the answers to questions.
We impressed Irina because we remembered a lot of facts that we had learned before in science and topics.
We learned lots of new things too... including how to sleep in space!
I learned about one of Jupiter's moons. The surface is covered in ice and under the ice is water. It would take us 5 years to get there. The temperature on Venus is 460 DE
I learned that to get to Mars it takes 6 months .I also learned that Jupiter has a moon that is made of ice and under the ice is water .Jupiter and Saturn are made of gas so you can't land on them .This is very interesting: the sun is not actually the biggest star there are ones way bigger .When a star is white and blue that means it is very hot -much hotter than orange and red stars.
The sun isn't the largest star but it is bigger than all the planets together.
Stars don't stay alive for ever including the north star.
I learned well I never knew that black holes don't suck every thing, it just suck up when you get too close to it and that the sun is not the largest star - there are some way bigger than it. Uranus has two rings around it but the rest of the gas planets just have one ring around them.
I learned that black holes are formed from stars! The star gets on its last few minutes of living (This only happens with larger stars.) They star explodes and the force of the star is so strong that it folds onto itself. The star squishes it self so much it turns into a black hole! And if you get too close to a black hole it's impossible to escape. Kind of like a water fall: if you stay away you'll be fine but if you get to close it will drag you down and you can't escape.
When we went in the planetarium we learned that there is a Mars rover that is on Mars and it has been on Mars for over ten years.
I learned that there isn't just 1 sun there are four suns with the blue sun being the hottest and the red sun being the coldest.
We had lots of questions too.
Who named all the planets? How many moons are there?
What will we do when the sun stops shining?
I have seen in a documentary about space there was a planet called Ceres which when it was a baby planet it was turning into a planet but then it was shoved into the asteroids and never fully developed into a real planet. Is this true?
Why is the sun classified as a star?
Why is the sun hot
How many moons are there in the solar system?
Irina couldn't answer all our questions, because scientists are still finding out about the solar system.
Heard lots about this today, thanks!
