Internet Safety

On Tuesday afternoon, the Infants and Juniors joined together and split into 3 groups to explore Internet Safety. The children each visited 3 workshops.

The children discussed how they use the internet; sites they visit, games they play and things that they watch. From these discussions, we then explored problems that may be encountered, such as unknown people 'befriending' them, age restrictions on certain games as well as inappropriate content appearing when searching the web. The children know that they should always tell a trusted adult if anything that they see when using the internet makes them feel uncomfortable or worried.

The children listened and discussed the story- 'The Magic window' where a girl had access to a magic window where she could discovered lots of wonderful things. However one day she saw something that made her feel upset. The girl didn't know what to do about it until eventually she discussed it with a special grown up. We discussed how the magic window was like the internet and sometime we may come across things that make us feel uncomfortable. The children discussed ideas about what to do in that situation such as reporting, blocking and speaking to grown ups.

The final workshop looked at someone that had had unkind comments written to them in a chat group and how it had been seen by all their peers. The children thought about the impact this could have on people and then came up with ways of showing kindness to one another.
