Author visit Year 3,4,5,6 were excited to welcome author,   Bemma Akyeampong to  Taddington today. She became an author during lockdown; it was something she had always wanted to do. She explained how she also tells stories, teaches music and does dance workshops. She explained how she had become a published author,  currently writing her 3rd story. All the children were engaged during her telling of one of her stories, Ayuda's messy rescue.. It was interesting to hear how the writing and editing process is a long one, with many drafts, re-writes and discussions, before reaching the final outcome.

This week the juniors have been working on their own sculptures made out of recycled rubbish that they have collected!  They designed their sculptures in order to raise awareness of ocean plastics. The children got to work in groups sketching and designing their project which they have then  brought to life. These will be displayed in our class assembly on Tuesday!

Wow! What an afternoon! The Giraffes have made us so incredibly proud. We competed against the small schools that qualified for the final in 11 track and field events. It was a real team effort; not only did we take away silver medals but we also won the determination award. Well done Giraffes, what a fantastic achievement.

How do animals stay warm?

In topic on Monday, we were investigating the way in which animals adapt to the cold climate. We looked at blubber as a thermal insulation.  The children worked in groups. They submerged their hands in icy water wearing rubber gloves recording how long it too for their hands to feel the cold. They tested different techniques such as inflating their glove to create a layer of air and smearing a thick layer of lard over the glove.  The children found that air and fat both insulate the body and keep animals warm!

Hands-on science

Let's investigate! We tested to see what happens to the brightness of the bulb, when we increased the voltage of the circuit. We set up a fair test, making sure that the ambient light was the same each time and the app was the same distance from the lamp each time.  Getting set up Testing As you can see, the brightness of the bulb increased dramatically as we increased the voltage. Further investigation After that, we decided to investigate the loudness of the buzzer as the voltage increased.
