Lets Learn Moor

KS2 children enjoyed a fantastic day with The Let’s Learn Moor Project learning about the importance of the uplands and how they are protected.

  • Dogs on the moor: Roy Ellershaw

  • Peak District National Park - Ranger Service

  • Peat protection and rewetting the moors, Wildfire Prevention and control: Peak District Moorland Group - Habitat management

  • The work of the emergency services on the moors : South Yorkshire Rural Crime Team

  • First (and hopefully the last) time in the cage in the back of the police van!

  • Predators and protection of ground nesting birds: Peak District Moorland Group - Wildlife management

  • Game as a food source : Peak District Moorland Group chef cooked game meat for the children to taste as they passed her area.
  • Conservation of the moors: Moors for the Future - Bogtastic display

Learning how vegetation and blocking slows down runoff.

Overall, the police drones and the dogs were the highlights of the day for the Giraffes.
