Investigation: How far has our food travelled?

Today, Giraffes looked at a variety of food packaging from fresh fruit and vegetables and other foods. They searched each label for the food's place of origin and marked its position on world maps. These maps were unlabelled so the children had to retrieve their knowledge of world geography to pinpoint countries. They then used atlases to check their placing. We then shared our findings and put them together on one large map. We talked about the number of countries represented and their distances from the UK, discussing the concept of 'food miles'.
