Giraffes@taddy

 Leopards and Giraffes had a visit from Nurse Jess. Jess talked about what it is like to be a nurse and the types of illness she might come across. The children planned and asked their own questions. The children brought some of their poorly teddies to the nurse to see how they could be made better and they also had chance to use some of the equipment. 

We started to learn about the process of mummification and the steps and methods the ancient Egyptians used. Leopards and Giraffes had the task of turning one of their peers into a mummy using toilet roll!

  How wonderful to welcome parents and children to enjoy  our  magical Book at Bedtime. Sipping comforting hot -  chocolate, cosying up with comfy cushions and snuggling up with blankets, children enjoyed story time in their pyjamas.

Heading off to Fairytale land ,  watching   snippets from the film Shrek , we spotted a wealth of fairytale characters and creatures .  We also gathered a large selection of fairytales from the library and classrooms .  Using these, we discussed features of fairytales including characters, settings and themes. We sorted them into venn diagrams looking for similarities and differences .  Following this, we had the big reveal of our new book... Drumroll please .... for the  The Sleeper and the Spindle by Neil Gaiman .  Immediately spotting similarities with Sleeping Beauty, we can’t wait to read this modern fairytale. .  What if I told you ... that there was no Prince Charming or knights in shining armour? With a sleeping plague sweeping through the land, will there will be a happily ever after?

  Year 6 reading ambassadors were very excited to be invited to Flagg Nursery this week. As role models for reading, they selected and read stories to the children.   Don't hold on to what's wrong  is the theme for this term's Heartsmart and Giraffes shared their learning with the whole school in collective worship yesterday.   Being HeartSmart means learning how to let the bad feelings out of our hearts so we can feel happy again. Anger Sharing our experiences. We talked about the anger iceberg :  Most of the iceberg is underwater. There is only a little bit that’s showing.  It can be a bit like our anger. The top part is the part you see - us being angry. Underneath are the reasons we felt angry. There is a lot more under the surface than what we can see. Maybe we are hungry, late or tired, but we show the emotion of anger. We were excited to see the cover of our new book, Freedom bird, by Jermaine Nolan.  We used evidence from the picture on the cover to make predictions about the  characters, setting  and themes of the book.  Using subordinate clauses and modal verbs, we wrote our predictions.
